Park University Copley Quad Featured in University Business

December 9th, 2008

PARKVILLE, Mo. – Park University’s Copley Quad student residences is the subject of an article in this month’s issue of University Business.

Designed through a collaboration between Ellerbe Becket and Sinclair Hille of Omaha, the new 86,000-square-foot project accommodates 250 students in four-person suites. When the second 250-bed phase is completed, a true residential quad will exist, inspired by the historic Copley Hall and located between the campus core and historic downtown Parkville.

Ellerbe Becket Construction Services managed the process through an integrated design-build approach. Recognizing the strategic importance of this project to the University, construction of the $18 million project was completed in just ten months.

Each Copley Quad suite includes about 840 square feet of furnished living space, with two bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a shared living area with an efficiency kitchen. Designed as true living-learning environments, the halls also provide commons space with a conference/classroom, computer labs and study rooms, as well as staff offices, 24-hour reception desk, laundry facilities, recreational space and a full-service kitchen.

Designers kept the new building true to Copley Hall’s Arts & Crafts style of architecture. The project is designed to LEED Silver standards to meet the University’s sustainability commitment under Park’s affiliation with the ACUPCC, the American College and University President’s Climate Commitment.

An innovator since its founding in 1909, Ellerbe Becket is a leader in architecture, engineering, interiors and the construction industry, with office locations worldwide.
