MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Ellerbe Becket was well represented at the Healthcare Design 08 conference, held earlier this week in Washington, D.C.
- A special pre-conference tour of the Ellerbe Becket-designed Walter Reed Army Medical Center - Military Advanced Training Center attracted more than 75 conference-goers. Representatives from Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Ellerbe Becket and Turner Construction were on hand to lead tours and answer questions.
- Ellerbe Becket planning principal John Waugh, AIA and principal and project manager Jim Mischnick, AIA co-presented with the University of Kentucky Hospital’s Dan Miesle and Jeff Norton on the topic of “Alignment of Design with Operational Performance Improvement.” This presentation described how Institute of Medicine (IOM) Quality Aims were incorporated in the development of the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital. What has emerged is a design that transforms the way in which care will be provided, staff enabled, and students educated. The presentation addressed how the design of the inpatient care floor specifically responds to standardization (which the team believes is critical to responding to the Six IOM Quality Aims) and efficiency.
- Ellerbe Becket design principal Mic Johnson, AIA and Judy Mitchell, AIA, director of planning for Partners Harvard Medical International, accepted the “Citation of Merit” Award for University Hospital in Dubai. The University Hospital was the only international project to be recognized with this honor.
