Sacramento State University will break ground this week (Oct. 1) on its multi-use Recreation and Wellness Center. Ellerbe Becket is the design associate and Hornberger + Worstell is the executive architect. Completion is scheduled for 2010.
This is the second phase of a major new sports, recreation and wellness complex that will serve students, faculty, staff and the community for decades to come. The Ellerbe Becket-designed Broad Athletic Facility opened earlier this year, replacing the existing Hornet Field House.

Studies have shown that student retention is directly linked to a student’s sense of “belonging” to a college or university community. Ellerbe Becket offers particular depth in the design of new and renovated campus recreation facilities, as well as student unions/student centers and student housing. These facilities often serve as the hubs of student life, and leveraging these facilities can help attract and recruit new students to campus.
An innovator since its founding in 1909, Ellerbe Becket is a leader in architecture, interiors, engineering and the construction industry with office locations worldwide.
