KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Steve Duethman, AIA, has been named Managing Principal of Ellerbe Becket’s Kansas City office. The company is one of the oldest and largest global design firms.

Duethman has been with Ellerbe Becket 16 years, managing large-scale sports projects for the firm’s collegiate and professional sports clients.

He replaces Bill Crockett, who is focusing full-time on directing the firm’s national sports practice. “Steve is an excellent choice,” said Crockett. “His attention to detail, his ability to foresee challenges before they arise and his skills in promoting good working relationships among various team members make him particularly qualified to lead the Kansas City office.”

While sports will always represent the lion’s share of the Kansas City office’s work, Duethman points with pride to the role his firm is playing in Kansas City’s renaissance. From the iconic Charles Evans Whittaker Federal Courthouse on the north end of Ilus Davis Plaza to the park-like setting of the new Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Ellerbe Becket-designed buildings are welcome additions to the downtown landscape. At the heart of it all is the glistening jewel of downtown revitalization, the Sprint Center Arena.

The firm is celebrating its 20th anniversary in Kansas City in 2008. From its beginnings as a sports operation, Duethman and his colleagues have expanded the office’s scope to include healthcare, higher education, government and mission critical facilities.

Duethman currently is managing the design on the new JQH Arena at Missouri State University in Springfield. Other recent projects include the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena, the Louisiana Superdome Renovation and the new Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

He is a graduate of the University of Kansas, having earned a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree. The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards also certifies him.

An innovator since its founding in 1909, Ellerbe Becket is a leader in architecture, engineering, interiors and construction services with office locations worldwide.
