The nearly 100-year-old company is one of the oldest, most respected design firms in the world. Meyer will be based in the firm’s Minneapolis office, but will travel to and support Ellerbe Becket offices throughout the U.S. and abroad.
He comes to Ellerbe Becket from RR Donnelly where he was vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for the firm’s Global Turnkey Solutions unit. His marketing career spans 30 years, having successfully increased market share and revenues for companies in intensely competitive industries.
While Ellerbe Becket has had marketing directors in the past, Chief Executive Officer Rick Lincicome says the firm has never had a professional with Meyer’s pedigree. “He will focus on the strategic aspects of our growth: new sales opportunities; expanding our expertise; and diversification. He has a proven track record both domestically and globally.”
From Meyer’s perspective, Ellerbe Becket represented the right fit. “I was looking for a new challenge, and architecture and engineering represented a highly-competitive industry that will allow me to leverage my experience in areas such as marketing strategy, business development, e-business and new product research and development.”
RR Donnelly purchased Banta Corporation where Meyer was vice president of marketing and planning for more than a decade. There he oversaw development and execution of company-wide marketing, communications and business development, a role similar to the initiative he will lead at Ellerbe Becket.
He also has served in lead marketing roles with Quebecor Printing of St. Paul, Minn.; Maxwell Communications of Greenwich, Conn.; the Webb Company of Minneapolis; and Augsburg Publishing, also of Minneapolis.
Meyer received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Augsburg College in Minneapolis and has completed a number of courses in marketing, economics and organizational design at various universities.
He is a member of the American Marketing Association and the Direct Marketing Association. He chaired the Printing Industry of America’s E-Business Strategy Team from 2000-2002; he is a past board member of the Canadian Direct Marketing Association and a former member of both the Retail Advertising & Marketing Association and the Graphic Arts Marketing Organization.
