West Georgia Health System Breaks Ground on New South Tower Expansion

October 4th, 2007

LAGRANGE, Ga. – West Georgia Health System in LaGrange officially broke ground on its new South Tower facility. The new building will enable the hospital to expand its specialized services and meet the growing healthcare needs of the community. The groundbreaking marks the first phase of construction of the four-story hospital, which will be completed in late 2009.

Ellerbe Becket is a member of the design team delivering the project.

“The South tower expansion represents a significant milestone for West Georgia Health System,” said President and CEO Jerry Fulks. “The new facility will enable the health system to offer Troup County resident the latest, most advanced care close to home and for many years to come. We are grateful to employees and community members who have supported our hospital project and our efforts to transform health care for west central Georgia.”

The new 130,000 square-foot facility, located on the south side of the West Georgia Health System campus, adjacent to the hospital’s heart clinic, will be designed for vertical expansion and will be able to accommodate up to 192 beds in the future. The $65 million-project will feature a new 24-bed ICU, cardiovascular center, Labor/Delivery and Mother-Baby Center, and Emergency Department. The South Tower will also provide a new “front door” to the medical center, with improved access and parking for patients and visitors.

The building itself has been designed to maximize natural light to create a relaxed, therapeutic environment that reduces stress and offers better comfort and support to patients and visitors. Incorporating natural woods, soothing colors, artwork and contemporary design elements, South Tower will include the comforts of home and the aesthetics and amenities of a fine hotel.

All patient rooms will be private, and include wireless computer access and a place for a family member to stay. Additionally, the main lobby will offer an enhanced reception area, a gift shop and coffee shop and will open into an outdoor garden park.
