April 30th, 2007

Roland Binker

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Roland Binker, AIA, has received a national appointment to the body that sets guidelines for health care design and construction. Binker, the Senior Medical Planner in Ellerbe Becket’s Washington, D.C., office, will serve on the prestigious Health Guidelines Revision Committee (HGRC).

He was recommended based on his expertise and leadership role on many of the issues addressed in the Guidelines. Binker will be working with more than 120 other professionals to create the 2010 edition of the Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities.

The Guidelines are referenced by health care providers and design professionals planning new or renovated health facility construction. Authorities in 42 states and the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of healthcare Organizations use the Guidelines as a reference code or standard for construction approval and licensure of health care facilities.

The next edition of Guidelines, scheduled for release in 2010, will be developed through a public process that includes three full Revision Committee meetings held over a two-year period. The first meeting was this month, the second will be in Jan. 2008 and the third will be held in April 2009.

In his 12 years with Ellerbe Becket, Binker has focused on healthcare and related high tech projects ranging from teaching hospitals to community hospitals and managed cared organizations. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and a Master of Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design.

The HGRC is administered under the auspices of the Facility Guidelines Institute.

An innovator since its founding, Ellerbe Becket is a leader in architecture, interiors, engineering and the construction industry, with office locations worldwide.
