April 13th, 2007

SEOUL, Korea – Two veteran Ellerbe Becket design professionals shared their considerable knowledge with Korean university students here last month.

Faye LeDoux, an Ellerbe Becket Principal and Project Director, spoke at Yonsei University. Her colleague, Design Principal Mic Johnson, addressed students at KONKUK University.

LeDoux spoke to approximately 120 undergraduate and graduate students of Dr. Yeunsook Lee’s Human Ecology Department at Yonsei University. Topics included “Well Being and Design, ” and a case study on Abbott Northwestern Hospital’s Neuroscience/Orthopaedic/Spine (NOS) Patient Care Center. The center integrates aspects of Abbott Northwestern’s Healing Environment Aesthetic Standards (physical, psychological, spiritual) with principles of patient-centered care and attributes of fengshui. The design accents and honors the unique nature of the NOS Centers of Excellence.

Johnson was invited by Professors Jong-Soo Cho, Ph.D., and Kwang Bae Kim to address about 150 students at KONKUK University Graduate School of Architecture. The title of his lecture was “Urban Architecture and Culture,” with content drawn from a series of his unpublished work called “Urban Field Notes.” Combining his notes and examples of Ellerbe Becket project work, he illustrated how fundamental principles about making buildings and cities can be applied in a variety of cultures around the world.

LeDoux has more than 25 years of healthcare, corporate, government and higher education experience. She has been published in several healthcare journals, been a member of numerous award’winning design teams and is often called upon to speak at industry events.

Johnson is a gifted and collaborative design architect who has been associated with Ellerbe Becket for half of his 30-year career. In his tenure with the firm, he has led design for some of Ellerbe Becket’s most notable projects, including Target Plaza South, 900 Nicollet mixed use and Samsung Medical Center Cancer Center in Seoul.
