Baptist Hospital East Tabs Renowned Design Team For New Facility

October 19th, 2006

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Baptist Hospital East has selected an architectural team to design its new Eastpoint Campus ambulatory care and surgery center. The site is located about 15 miles east of downtown Louisville in one of the metro area’s fastest growing sectors.

Renowned healthcare firm Ellerbe Becket is teamed with prominent local firm Laughlin Millea Hillman (LMH) Architects on the six’story, 185,000 sf project. Ellerbe Becket designed the first Mayo Clinic nearly a century ago and continues to count Mayo among its clients today. LMH has extensive healthcare experience in the Louisville region, designing hospitals, clinics and medical office buildings.

The Eastpoint area is medically underserved and the new ambulatory care and surgery center will provide much needed services to the burgeoning population. The first floor will house an outpatient ambulatory surgery center. The second floor will contain an urgent care center, diagnostic imaging/radiology, physical therapy and cardiology.

Medical offices will round out the remaining four floors. The new ambulatory care and surgery center is the first step in what Baptist Hospital East officials expect to be a major medical campus in the coming years.

Ellerbe Becket and LMH currently are collaborating on schematic design. In addition to architecture, Ellerbe Becket is providing medical planning, structural engineering and mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering.

“LMH’s outstanding reputation and Baptist East’s comfort level with them were important factors in winning the project,” said Ellerbe Becket Project Director Adrian Hagerty. Other factors in the team’s favor are Ellerbe’s national healthcare portfolio and an ongoing relationship with KLMK (the firm managing the Baptist Hospital East project).

Construction is expected to begin in late spring 2007 with completion tentatively scheduled for spring 2009.

Baptist Hospital East is Louisville’s premier East End medical center, with specialized services for women’s health, cancer, heart, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, emergency care, rehabilitation, sleep disorders, occupational health and behavioral health.

An innovator since its founding in 1909, Ellerbe Becket is a leader in architecture, interiors, engineering and the construction industry with office locations worldwide.
