July 27th, 2006

CHARLOTTSVILLE, Va. – Members of the news media got a sneak peak at the new John Paul Jones Arena on the University of Virginia campus last week. The 15,000-seat arena, designed in the “Jeffersonian” tradition by VMDO Architects and Ellerbe Becket, is scheduled to officially open September 22-23 with two shows by the Dave Matthews Band.

In addition to concerts, the arena will be home to the Virginia Cavaliers men’s and women’s basketball teams. Both teams will open the new venue Nov. 12 with a basketball doubleheader. The women will play traditional rival Old Dominion, followed by a men’s game between Virginia and perennial power Arizona. Click here for more on the new John Paul Jones Arena.
