BELLEVUE-Group Health Cooperative has named Ellerbe Becket, in association with Northwest Architectural Company (NAC), as the architect to complete the design and construction of its new multispecialty medical center in Bellevue. The medical center, to be located next to the I-405 8th Street NE exit and Overlake Hospital, is scheduled to open in 2008.
Ellerbe Becket and NAC bring a deep, broad range of health care experience to the project. Founded in 1909, Ellerbe Becket’s distinctive work in health care design–and experience with group practices–includes more than 90 years partnering with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
NAC has offices in Seattle, Spokane, and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Its credentials include major projects for Highline Medical Center in Burien, Wash., that are based on patient-focused design. It has also designed for group practices such as Spokane’s Rockwood Clinic.
Jill Ostrem, Group Health’s VP/Eastside, said, “Our new medical center will be not only a landmark and symbol of Group Health on the Eastside, but a benchmark for great health care and service.”
The new ’120 million medical center will provide space for the outpatient practice of Group Health physicians in more than 20 specialty areas, including cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, sports medicine, and primary care.
The center will house outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, a women’s health care center, cancer treatment center, and an outpatient acute and urgent care center.
The medical center will be next to and connected with Overlake Hospital’s new 104-bed inpatient tower.
Group Health’s 4.18-acre triangular parcel is bordered by 116th Avenue Northeast on the east, Northeast 8th Street on the south, I-405 on the west, and the future Northeast 10th Street extension on the north.
“Group Health’s new multispecialty center underscores our commitment to the people, businesses, and communities of the Eastside,” Ostrem said. “It’s a key part of the largest investment in new facilities, technology, and services in Group Health’s 58-year history.”
That investment also includes a new primary care center in Redmond at a location to be determined.
