April 8th, 2005

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Bill Crockett, AIA, has been named National Director of Sports Architecture at Ellerbe Becket.

It’s the latest milestone in a 15-year Ellerbe Becket career that has also seen him named to the firm’s Board of Directors and Management Committee.

Ellerbe Becket is a world leader in sports and entertainment design, with household name projects such as Madison Square Garden, Lambeau Field and Notre Dame Stadium in its portfolio. In his new position, Crockett leads the firm’s international sports practice in addition to leading projects for prominent clients throughout the Western U.S. from the San Francisco office.

It’s a role for which he is well suited. He was a principal in the firm’s sports practice in Kansas City for nine years. The Kansas City and San Francisco sports offices currently are working together on a new $90 million recreation, wellness, events and stadium facility for Sacramento State University and the new multi-purpose stadium for the University of California, Davis. They also collaborated on the recently completed McCarthy Athletic Center at Gonzaga University.

“I’m blessed to be working with a group of outstanding individuals, seasoned sports industry visionaries and veterans in their own right,“ said Crockett “This group brings an optimistic view of the future evolution of the industry, great professionalism and commitment to service.”

Crockett will maintain his Bay Area residence while working with clients and providing strategic leadership and direction nationally.

He has been Principal In Charge for some of the firm’s most successful projects, including the landmark Conseco Fieldhouse (home of the NBA Indiana Pacers), Qwest Field (home of the NFL Seattle Seahawks) and the Rose Garden (home of the NBA Portland Trailblazers). On the collegiate level, he has overseen projects for Santa Clara University, Gonzaga University and the University of California, Davis.

He received his master of architecture degree in 1978 from Tulane University in New Orleans. He is affiliated with the American Institute of Architects and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

An innovator since its founding in 1909, Ellerbe Becket is a leader in architecture, engineering and the construction industry with office locations worldwide.
