MINNEAPOLIS–In a ranking that should surprise no one, the Mayo Clinic was named one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report magazine. The Rochester, Minn., medical center ranked second overall in a survey that included doctors’ ratings of hospital reputations as well as an analysis of technology use, death rates and nurse-staffing ratios.

Johns Hopkins Hospital ranked first. Massachusetts General placed third, the Cleveland Clinic was fourth and UCLA Medical Center rounded out the top five.

Mayo ranked in the top 10 in 10 of the 17 categories surveyed. Categories included medical conditions such as cancer, digestive disorders, geriatrics, heart disease and rheumatology, to name a few.
