Soldier Field in Chicago was selected as "Overall Project of the Year" and Lambeau Field in Green Bay won an "Award of Merit." Midwest Construction convened a jury composed of prominent industry professionals to select building designs that demonstrated the most innovative solutions to project challenges.

The awards ceremony will be held Jan. 26 at 11:30 a.m. at the Chicago Renaissance Hotel at One West Wacker Drive. All proceeds go to the ACE Mentor Program in Chicago that fosters architectural and engineering students.

Originally constructed in 1924, Soldier Field has been the home of the Chicago Bears for over 30 years. For the renovation, the interior of the old stadium was completely removed, saving the historic colonnades and Grand Concourse on the outside of the stadium. The oldest stadium in the National Football League now has seating for 63,000 people, with 133 skybox suites, 8,600 club seats and a 100,000 square foot club lounge designed for game day use, parties and special events.

Ellerbe Becket provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering, as well as architectural consulting for the $600 million Soldier Field renovation on Chicago's lakefront.

Ellerbe Becket had the challenge of preserving historic Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers, while making it economically viable in a modern sports market. This two-phased project expands traditional fan amenities, improves circulation, and provides increased concourse widths, restrooms and points of sale. With the new press and suite levels located above the existing structure, nine additional rows of seating were added to offer more club seating and general seating options.

Ellerbe Becket was the lead designer on the $295 million redevelopment of Lambeau Field.
