Willey worked for Ellerbe from 1990 to 1999 as a project manager and construction administrator. Most recently he was a senior project manager for Higgins Development Partners, LLC., of McLean, Va.
He has more than 20 years of construction services experience in the D.C. area. In recent years he has supervised staff on projects in the $60 - $100 million range, including work for federal government clients such as the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. General Services Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
He returns to Ellerbe at a time when the firm is building more of what it designs, particularly in the health sciences market. Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington, Va., and the Center for Health Improvement in Hays, Kan., are recent examples of projects in which Ellerbe managed design and construction.
Willey began his career as a project designer for Giant Food Inc. in the early 1980s. He also worked as a project designer and construction administrator for META Engineers P.C., of Washington, D.C.
Away from the office, he serves as a volunteer firefighter and member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Urban Search and Rescue Task Force, VA. TF-1. This highly specialized team is deployed during national or international emergencies in which knowledge of construction and rescue is vital, such as the Oklahoma City bombing and the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the Pentagon.
He is based in D.C. where Ellerbe Becket has a legacy of prestigious commissions, including current projects with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Washington Adventist Hospital, as well as an athletic facility for the American University in Cairo, Egypt; and the Khalifa Orthopedic Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha, Qatar.
