Scheduled for completion in 2006, the building will serve as the School of Management’s education and research base and will be designed with state-of-the-art networking and videoconferencing facilities. It will be located on the northwest side of campus near Torrey Pines Boulevard and adjacent to the Salk Institute.

The School will offer a variety of full-time, part-time and executive programs leading to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. A PhD program linked to faculty members’ research also will be offered. The school also will offer joint degree programs with UCSD’s Jacobs School of Engineering, School of Medicine, and Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies.

Ellerbe Becket’s Minneapolis office has begun concept design on the school, which welcomed its first class of students this fall. The firm’s Minneapolis higher education practice has designed seven university business schools in the past decade, including the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis; the Fluno Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and Cornell Hall at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

“We’re taking our cues from the dynamic science and technology base in the San Diego region,” said David Rova, design director for the Minneapolis office. “The new school will support technology growth by teaching management skills to people who already are highly-skilled in science and technology.”
