This week the NBA Seattle SuperSonics open their season in Japan's Saitama Arena. The Seattle Times profiled the transformable “smart arena” and its designer, Ellerbe Becket. No other stadiums in the world can do what this one can: transform from a 35,000-seat stadium into a 20,000-seat arena, then a 6,000-seat concert hall in a matter of minutes.
