Ellerbe Becket Selects Four Board Members

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Ellerbe Becket shareholders have elected three new members and re-elected a fourth to the firm’s Board of Directors.

John C. Gaunt, AIA, John Waugh, AIA, and Mark Zweig were elected to two-year terms. John M “Jock” Holliman also was re-elected to a two-year term.

The four join Ellerbe Becket CEO Rick Lincicome, AIA, William Crockett, AIA, and Carol Knuth Sakoian in rounding out the seven-member board. Lincicome, Crockett and Waugh are Ellerbe Becket employees. The additional four members are outside directors.

Gaunt is Dean of the School of Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. He is recognized as a proponent of quality design and has represented design at the highest levels of the academic and professional worlds. He served as president of Ellerbe Becket from 1987–1994 and also served on the firm’s board of directors during that time. He is an advocate of connecting academia to the practice of architecture and is a sought-after speaker by groups ranging from the AIA, to historic foundations and young architect’s forums.

Waugh is recognized as one of the world’s leading designers and planners of health sciences facilities. As Ellerbe Becket’s lead designer for both the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Redevelopment in Chicago and the Mayo Clinic’s Leslie and Susan Gonda Building, he excels at working with complex clients and multiple-entity design teams to achieve award-wining results. He has advised healthcare clients for more than 30 years (over 25 with Ellerbe Becket) on issues related to campus master planning, infrastructure and departmental relationships and adapting emerging technologies.

Mark Zweig is president of ZweigWhite, the leading management consulting, publishing and training firm in the design and construction industry. He’s a recognized expert on design firm management and publishes the Zweig Letter, the leading weekly management newsletter for industry professionals. ZweigWhite has twice been named one of Inc. magazine’s 500 fastest-growing, privately-held firms in the U.S.

Holliman has more than 20 years of experience in the venture capital industry with emerging companies in the southwestern United States. He is a general partner in Valley Ventures, L.P., a venture capital firm in Phoenix. He has been affiliated with the Ellerbe Becket board since 1994, serving as chairman in 1999. He assisted in designing and implementing the company’s ownership restructuring plan in 1997 and has served as the company’s principal board advisor in finance/accounting areas.
