In June The Sioux City (Iowa) Journal accompanied city council members on a walk-through of the city's new events center under construction in the northwest Iowa city. Ellerbe Becket designers have added the Gateway Arena to the city's historic auditorium and created a complex called the Tyson Events Center. The tour gave the council members a chance to ask questions and see the project up close.

After having worked for months on the arena's design, seeing the building take form prompted Ellerbe Becket project manager Steve Duethman to remark, "The proportion of the new building will fit in with the old one. One doesn't overpower the other."
