Ellerbe Becket Part of Tribute to Peanuts Creator Charles Schulz

June 5th, 2003

Again this year Ellerbe Becket has designed a “Peanuts” character statue as part of a tribute to Peanuts creator Charles Schulz in St. Paul, Minn., where the cartoonist grew up. “Linus Blankets St. Paul” is a series of statues designed by local artists and businesses for display in the city this summer.

Ellerbe Becket's entry is called “Linious the Great, ” and depicts Linus in toga and Roman emperor garb. The wisps of hair on the statue’s large head proved extremely difficult to paint for many of the local artists. Ellerbe Becket Graphic Designer Steven Gamache is quoted in the June 4 St. Paul Pioneer Press on the "agony and the ecstasy" of designing this year's statue. Gamache provided artistic talent for the firm’s previous Peanuts statues, “Under Construction Charlie Brown” and “Lucy Ross.”

“Linious the Great” is on display outside the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul, a project designed by Ellerbe Becket.
