MINNEAPOLIS — American School & University magazine has awarded Ellerbe Becket a citation for design excellence in its U.S. Architectural Portfolio competition. The award recognizes Ellerbe Becket’s design for the University of Notre Dame, College of Business Administration. Judges say of the project, “Outstanding job of facility integration while emphasizing its own identity.”
The AS&U Architectural Portfolio, now in its fifteenth year, is the nation’s best-known tribute to education design excellence. Published in conjunction with the American Institute of Architects (AIA), this highly respected competition recognizes architects, educational institutions and suppliers for their contribution to outstanding education construction.
A jury of AIA members and school administrators evaluate and select outstanding projects for publication. The jury gives primary consideration to the design firm’s solution to the stated education program requirements, specifically:
- Problem statement and technical specifications
- Architectural response to the program requirements
- Aesthetic characteristics of the solution
- Adaptation to the surrounding environment
- Adaptability for/or inclusion of technology
- Overall presentation of materials
Ellerbe Becket’s College of Business Administration design, along with other outstanding projects, is featured in the November 1997 issue of American School & University. Architectural Portfolio is the premier U.S. program honoring education design excellence. Monthly, more than 56,000 facility planners, school and university administrators, and architects across the nation look to AS&U for information about educational facilities and administration.
