Binker comes to Ellerbe Becket after nine years with Cannon in Washington, D.C., where he was senior associate and medical planner. He has led renovation, master planning, programming and design projects for health care facilities throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and California, as well as in Italy and China. Binker’s work includes a strong concentration in teaching and research institutions, such as the University of Virginia Hospitals, University of Maryland Medical System, West Virginia University Hospitals, and the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. He also has extensive experience with primary care/managed care facilities both for private-pay and other clients.
His most recent work was for Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, where he led the creation of a master plan and renovation of the National Hand Center, a 27,000-sq.ft. (2,508 m2) space that includes clinical, rehabilitation, library/archival and teleconferencing areas. The Union Memorial Hospital project also encompassed renovation of a cardiovascular unit, labor and delivery suite, and staff education suite.
Binker has focused his entire 20-year career on health care clients. He received his master of architecture degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1979.
