The Maryland Stadium Authority was created in 1986 to return an NFL team to Baltimore and ensure the MLB Orioles remained in Maryland. With the completion of Camden Yards ballpark, the Maryland General Assembly expanded the stadium authority’s role to encompass recreational developments for colleges, universities and municipalities around the state.
