Mayo Clinic, Samuel C. Johnson Biomedical Research Facility

Scottsdale, Arizona, USA

The laboratory modules for the Samuel C. Johnson Medical Research Facility follow one of the Mayo Clinic’s standard configurations, developed over decades in collaboration with Ellerbe Becket planners. The center contains state-of-the-art research space, a research library and teleconference and seminar rooms. Initially designed for 10 primary investigators, the research center can expand horizontally for up to 50 investigators.

The roofscape, which in laboratory buildings includes numerous exhaust stacks, uses screening devices to blend the overall building mass into the desert landscape.
