The 1928 Mayo diagnostic facility, later named the Plummer Building, replaced temporary diagnostic areas at the fledgling medical center. Serious planning and research for this structure began as early as 1924 when Ellerbe became involved directly. The Plummer Building was the first on the Mayo campus to place emphasis on aesthetic aspects, especially in public areas. The building’s graceful, open belfry soon became a Rochester landmark.
Intelligence with knowledge enables wisdom to extend the highest service.
