American University in Cairo, Recreation Center

Ellerbe Becket was selected to join an international team of architectural firms in designing a new campus for the American University in Cairo. On the new campus, both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities will be dramatically expanded, significantly improving the quality of student life.

To encourage user participation, the corridor and courtyards of the center have views into the activity areas. In addition, there are both formal and informal spaces that make the recreational facility a key gathering place for the University, encouraging a healthy lifestyle and social interaction.
