Nile Hilton Hotel

Cairo, Egypt

The Egyptian landmark represents Hilton’s first international hotel, a project that set the standards for many subsequent hotels. Surrounded by Egyptian history, this 533,900-square-foot building was designed with a broad V-shaped guestroom tower to give occupants the best views possible. Built on a 6.5-acre site, the 14-story hotel is located on the east bank of the Nile River, at the head of Cairo’s Kasr El Nil Bridge. Balconies for each of the 400 guestrooms and suites totally surround the building at all levels, forming the building’s design.

Egyptian history is symbolically illustrated throughout the interior. The furniture in each guestroom was entirely handstyled by Egyptian craftsmen with the designs and motifs reminiscent of the Pharaonic past. Each room featured a reproduction of an ancient bas-relief selected from the Egyptian Museum and cast under its supervision. The hotel’s private dining rooms feature handloomed Egyptian tapestries of cartouches selected from the Tutankhamen collection. The first-floor lobby features carpet handloomed in Egypt in bas-relief hieroglyphics, spelling out welcome messages to the hotel’s guests.
