The House of Tomorrow

Los Angeles, California

The House of Tomorrow in Los Angeles was a prototype for post-war housing designed to whet the appetites of war-weary residents for the comforts of the future, including new-fangled conveniences like garbage disposals, televisions, intercom and speaker systems, and central air conditioning. Suburban developer/builder Fritz Burns charged a dollar to tour the house and sold a million tickets after House Beautiful magazine devoted forty-two pages to the home in 1946.

Over the past decades, the house was converted into multi-tenant offices and has fallen into disrepair. It is in danger of demolition.
