Guangdong Olympic Stadium

Guangzhou, Guangdong, Republic of China

In the 2,000-year-old city of Guangzhou – known as the Flower City – Ellerbe Becket designers created a bowl structure for Guangdong Olympic Stadium that appears to grow upward to an edge sculpted like flower petals. A roof flows ribbon-like over seats, parting to hold the Olympic flame at one end.

The stadium is home to China's National Games, as well as international track and field events, soccer matches, performances and exhibitions. Retail, a hotel, athletic club and other amenities round out the complex.
