Ellerbe Becket Minneapolis Office Renovation

Minneapolis, Minnesota

This project was a complete renovation of three contiguous floors of LaSalle Plaza, an Ellerbe Becket-designed high-rise building in downtown Minneapolis.

Years of wear and tear signaled it was time for a renovation. The space was no longer efficient in supporting current business practices, to say nothing of reflecting the image of a well-established global design firm.

The remodeled space features large, open plan workstation areas, broken up with teaming spaces, address flexibility and growth. Layout and storage areas were moved to the perimeter of each floor to maximize space and foster an egalitarian approach to space utilization. Conference, storage and break areas form an extension of the core. Workstations with low panels and glass allow light into all work areas while establishing an environment conducive to collaboration and teamwork.

The project also allowed Ellerbe Becket to reuse many components of the existing space in an effort to minimize environmental waste. Most notably was the reuse of butcher-block work surfaces that had served as desktops in the Minneapolis office for almost 30 years. In the new space, these solid oak tops were refinished and became wood feature walls on each floor. They also became tops on all departmental storage that lines the window walls.
