The two Ellerbe Becket-designed cooling plants at Dubai International Financial Centre (DFIC) will distribute 90,000 tons of cooling and will serve 19,000,000 to 23,000,000 square feet of office, retail, residential, hotel and supporting structures. The 90,000 tons of cooling is produced in two plants separated by a mile of piping, at opposite ends of the site.
The North Plant (60,000 tons) has two sets of 36-inch chilled water mains and connects to the South Plant (30,000 tons) in the middle of the site. Each plant has a unique floor plan, fit to its site, which determined the building shapes and sizes.
Each plant is scalable in the sense that additional chillers will be purchased and installed to match the actual site requirements.
