Target Northern Campus, Building D

Brooklyn Park, Minnesota USA

As the latest phase in the expansion of Target Corporation’s Northern Campus, a design goal of Building D was to create a sense of community and an environment similar in quality to Target’s offices in downtown Minneapolis. One of the primary charges to the design team was to infuse the Target brand – one of the most recognizable in the United States – throughout the design of the interior environment.

Building D is separated into two wings, connected by an atrium that is wrapped by a centralized conference center. The atrium is the heart of the Target team member community within Building D. It connects a formal ‘front door’ on the south to an informal garden and natural landscape at the north. Bridges at each end link the building’s primary office wings together. These wings are comprised of open office workplace, centralized enclosed conferencing hubs, service centers and other support space on each floor.

While horizontal communication areas are included around the atrium, vertical communication has been enhanced by developing the adjacent fire stair to the atrium into an open winding stair with large windows that open into the seating areas on the atrium’s ground floor.
