University of Kentucky Healthcare, Albert B. Chandler Hospital

Lexington, Kentucky

Ellerbe Becket has been retained as the “National Healthcare Architect” for the design of the University of Kentucky’s new patient tower. Phase I of the project consists of the design and planning of a new, 1,000,000-sf, 240-bed inpatient tower. The new facility includes the following departments: Emergency, Dietary, CS and approximately 200,000 sf of shell space for future diagnostic and treatment functions such as imaging and surgery. The project also includes a 1,000-car parking ramp with a pedestrian bridge to the new bed tower, interim renovations; road realignments; and relocation and improvements to campus infrastructure.

This is really the beginning of dramatic, substantive and long-term change for the academic medical center and the UK Chandler Hospital. This project will improve health care for the people of Kentucky, while also expanding the research and education agenda of the University of Kentucky and the economy of the region and state.
