Yonsei University Medical Center, New Severance Hospital

Seoul, South Korea

Korea's leading-edge medical technology provider, the 1006-bed Severance Hospital establishes a new identity for YUMC. Main program components are an outpatient building, diagnostic and treatment base, bed tower, underground parking, and a 7-story atrium that links each component together. A monumental 4-story stair features gardens, mountain and city views, and water features and connects the facility with the larger campus and city context. Interior public spaces promote flexibility, create a healing environment and improve patient wayfinding.

The New Severance Hospital is a wonderful building just to look at. It’s also a world-class medical facility boasting a range of technical innovations that will be envied by hospitals near and far.
