University of California-Berkeley, Walter A. Haas Jr. Pavilion

Berkeley, California, USA

It may be home to UC-Berkeley’s varsity athletics and the Department of Human Biodynamics, but Haas Pavilion is about basketball. The design team even saved the old Harmon Gymnasium floor for the new arena. And with double the seating capacity, games are that much more fun, especially when playing arch-rival Stanford.

Upgrades, of course, were vital to the package. Not only have concessions improved, there is a team store and a spectator club with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Larger offices and better equipped facilities overall improve the athletic program and expand its potential.

All my fears of losing Harmon washed away in the awe of Haas.
